What’s my journey? What’s my destination? I have absolutely no clue, but does anyone really?
“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one.”
― George R.R. Martin, A Dance with Dragons
My journey to becoming a professional writer has been a lot more learning than doing. It’s often said that textbook learning is fine, but experience matters. If someone wants to be a mechanic and work on vehicles for a living; it’s critical to study the ins and outs of being a mechanic. However, some would say, including myself, that it’s just as important to physically work on vehicles and get that hands-on knowledge about how they work.
And that’s something I’ve struggled with over the years. I’ve developed quite a fear of actually putting pen to paper as I’m sure most writers have developed. I’ve written some stuff here and there, but never published or posted anything. I’ve even wiped any evidence of those ideas existing. It’s a shame.
That’s a major reason why I created this blog. I’m no bestselling author, I’m no expert on writing, I honestly don’t expect any visitors to this blog (and if you’re a visitor, thank you so much, I hope you stay <3). I’m launching this blog so I can overcome the fear of posting my work, so I can have an exercise to get the blood pumping to my cold finger tips. I want to document my journey and show what I have learned along the way so if another aspiring or struggling writer stumbles upon my blog, they can see they are not alone.
I’ve always wanted to be a writer. I used to sit in my parent’s living room as a child and write “horror” stories about demons and vampires. I would hand copy those multi-page stories for everyone in my family to read. I was really proud of them. It wasn’t until the sixth grade that I aspired to become a professional writer after my English teacher said I had a natural talent for writing and continued to use my ten-page project story as an example for her other students for years to come.
That was enough motivation for me, and I want to give out that same amount of motivation through what I post here. I’m most likely not going to teach writers anything, at least not for now, or at least not anything you can’t already learn from someone more qualified. All I can do is post about things I’ve learned from others along the way. But it would be really awesome if you joined me on this journey.
This blog will comprise my fictional stories, my poetry, my thoughts and ideas, and how I see the world. My goal is to motivate new writers and build a community so we can grow together as writers and readers and feel accomplished when someone in our community achieves something great.
So I hope you stick around. I hope you enjoy my stories, and I hope you have a wonderful day.
